About BIG ISLAND COPILOT

Big Island Copilot is written by someone who lives on Hawaiʻi Island and pays attention to how the place actually functions day to day.

This site isn’t affiliated with tour companies, and it doesn’t promise curated experiences or perfect timing. The goal is simpler than that: to help people understand what they’re stepping into before they arrive.

Volcanoes don’t follow schedules. Weather changes quickly. Distances are longer than they appear. Services can be limited. These things shape every visit here, whether people realize it or not.

Big Island Copilot exists as a quiet, no-intimidation reference — something you can read at your own pace, without urgency, before making plans of your own. This website was inspired by watching nice people asking simple questions on social media groups about their family vacation, just to be met with rude, hateful comments. That doesn’t help you at all, but this will! It is an amazing life accomplishment and human experience to make it to Hawai’i, and you should enjoy every part, including your pre-trip research!
